From the Beginning
LINDA HAMIDY GRANDER discovered her artistic talent by first designing and producing women’s handbags, before venturing into clothing. After graduating in 2001, CUM LAUDE from Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (F.I.D.M), San Francisco, California, she began her business – Bagcraft.
Her small operation started by bringing fabrics – tenun and batik from her home island of Lombok, individually sewing and beading each one, creating an exquisite one-of-a-kind handbag collection. Along with her overseas experience living in the U.S., Linda has never forgotten her roots, therefore, combining the cultural strengths of both East and West. Linda showcases her natural ability to design a unique modern “ethnic contemporary” wear; with attention to detail complemented by symmetry of shapes and vivid use of colors. The uniqueness of integrating simple modern Western and Asian influences is the inspiration.
All of her creations are highly motivated by the pursuit of her love and passion of Art. Her keen sense of high fashion appeals in particular to stylish, modern and career-minded women. Linda is best known for her focus to elegance integrating quality with comfort in her clothing. She doesn’t have any time to stand still, always in pursuit to educating herself and others – especially in the hunt for inspiration. The year of 2009 was a pivotal time for Linda; it was the grand opening of Boutique Rumah Tenun (House of Tenun) in Ampenan, Lombok, NTB. The ever growing presence of Boutique Rumah Tenun changed the local fashion trend towards modernization of hand-woven tenun.
